My garden fence kept collapsing in November winds. The fence was originally made of panels with wooden posts every 6 feet. Most of the posts rotted at ground level, despite being treated timber. After a few years of replacing fence panels every year, I chose to rebuild it using concrete repair spurs in the ground every 9 feet, and a line of cinder blocks cemented in place along the line of the fence in place of gravel boards. Three Arris rails were installed and featherboards were mounted, sitting on the cinder blocks.
The curved top was cut once all the featherboards were installed: a plywood former 5 feet long was made with a half-curve, and this was used to draw the curved line in pencil. The curve was cut in place using a power jigsaw.
When first built, the fence looked very industrial because the top was straight (and 6 feet off the ground). Once the top had been cut to the curve, the whole fence was much more pleasant to look at.
