Scissor lift - August 2021

Sometimes, I need a block to support the other end of a long piece of work that is on the drill stand. Using blocks and shims is not particularly precise, nor safe. I looked at the option of buying a scissor lift, and deliberated over the course of several years, before deciding that I wanted to spend the money on something else. Then I wondered if I could make my own.

It's amazing what plans you can find on the internet. This design came from woodworkjunkie. To raise it up and down, attach a cordless drill to the threaded rod that runs through the middle, and pull the trigger.

I used plywood that was left over from another project, and some dowel. I had the screws and most of the bolts already. The only parts that I needed to purchase were the lengths of threaded rod.

Watch the video to see it in action.
